The Incan citadel of Choquequirao lies hidden deep in the Andes, ringed by mountain peaks and thickly forested slopes, a sort of hidden sister city to famous Machu Picchu. Its name means "Cradle of Gold," and the city is dedicated to the worship of the mountain and river gods of the Inca. Trek into the heart of ancient Inca country, surrounded by history, myth and incredible scenery. A spectacular 60 km trek.

Attractions
We leave Cusco early to begin our journey to the village of Cachora, where the trek officially begins. Driving through the farmland of the Anta Plateau we'll be surrounded by the high Andean peaks of the Cordillera Vilcabamba, where we'll spend the next three days hiking.
When we arrive at Cachora, we'll meet up with our crew and horse train, which carries our supplies. As our hike begins, we'll catch a glimpse of far-off Choquequirao and then wind our way down toward the Apurimac River Canyon—known as the "Great Spirit Speaker" to the Incas— with a passage on a suspension bridge. Choquequirao: the ancient city reveals itself as we spend the whole day exploring these stunning ruins. Choquequirao means "Cradle of Gold," and the site is thought to have been built by the son of Machu Picchu's creator, to rival the more famous and accessible citadel.
Terraces sweep out from the main plaza towards incredible vistas of the Cordillera Vilcabamba. Built as an elite city for ceremonial purposes, the residences, royal baths, halls, gardens and stairways pay tribute to the engineering genius and careful planning that typifies Incan architecture.

Pricing per person based on 2-persons sharing tents (2 people in each 4-people-capacity tent). Extensions to visit Machu Picchu available upon request. Cusco hotels/Sacred Valley extensions and/or Amazon lodge adventure.
